CLEVELAND - Is prolonged screen time adversely affecting your skin?

A dermatologist at the Cleveland Clinic, says it is possible because the light that our gadgets emit might affect our skin.

“Not primarily in terms of triggering skin cancer, but this specific type of light can hasten aging by damaging our collagen and elastin, “We also understand this light can stimulate melanin production, meaning individuals with darker skin types may be more susceptible to hyperpigmentation.”

Noted that gadgets such as phones, tablets, televisions, and even some lighting sources can radiate a form of visible light known as blue light.

While the sun’s rays are considerably more dangerous, prolonged daily screen exposure might also contribute to skin alterations.

This is because extended exposure to blue light can potentially result in fine lines and dark patches.

Therefore, ho  w can you shield your skin from blue light?

"The only sunscreens that are likely to be effective against this visible light are those that contain iron oxide or tint," If you choose a sunscreen with a white base, it probably does not include iron oxide. Make sure to look at the parts that are not in use.

Also advised lowering exposure by turning down the brightness of your gadgets and cutting back on screen time in general.
